LS: Maxi-Trimaran XXL

Polar graph for Maxi XXL (LiveSkipper)The designers probably went much like in that 70’s tv-show, “Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world’s insanest boat. The Maxi XXL will be that boat. Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.”

While it has a similar set of sails to the Maxi XL (stay sail, solent, genoa, code 0, and genaker), all the numbers are up. Way up. This thing is bonkers!

Again, these are the optimum VMG angles:

  1. WOOOP – HANG ON BOYS!!
39knots on a beam reach in ~20 knt winds!! :-)))

They MUST be reaching design limits of diminishing returns?? What will it take for them to break the 40kt barrier ??

    • It is a souped-up version of the Trimaran XL, they just multiplied it by a factor of 1.7. I’m not sure in how far they’ve been able to model the XL after the maxi trimaran.

  2. Yes guys, that is the speed LiveSkipper gets out of the MAXI TRIMARANS and not even in gail force winds

Like to try is out , logon to LiveSkipper. it is all free and the excitement comes to you.
We just did a New York Bordeaux race and the winner sailed the 3200 Nm in 4 days 13 hrs, average 680 Nm a day.
Philip you did a marvellous catching up in the last day !

    • Thanks for noticing. I forgot about the race and started a day late, first ranked 860+. But the winds were favourable and I managed to finish in 257th place, so I am pretty happy about that. In the right conditions it’s great, but difficult upwind,

      Cheers,
      Philip
